The Back to Nature Network teacher’s guide, Into Nature, is a unique teachers’ guide that enables the teaching of all Ontario school curriculum subjects outdoors in nature on a regular basis. Content of the guide includes logistics, resources and learning experiences for teaching in nature. All learning experiences are linked to Ontario curriculum documents and include: Nature 101, a series of five phases to move from the indoor classroom to the outdoor learning space; fifty Nature2Go activities; and full lessons that last one class period or more.

Shaping Our Schools, Shaping Our Future
In 2007 the Ontario government undertook to examine environmental education in the curriculum through the Ministry of Education's Curriculum Council. The Working Group on Environmental Education, convened by the council and chaired by Dr. Roberta Bondar, was given the mandate “to analyse needs and research successful approaches to teaching and learning about the environment in elementary and secondary schools”. This report, published in June 2007, contains thirty-two recommendations that have informed Ontario's approach to environmental education

Envronmental Education in the Ontario Curriculum Grades 1-8 and Kindergarten Programs
This resource document has been prepared to assist teachers in bringing environmental education into the classroom in each subject area in Grades 1 to 8 and Kindergarten programs. In the elementary curriculum, most of the expectations connected explicitly with aspects of environmental education are found in the science and technology curriculum and the social studies, history, and geography curriculum. In other subject areas, connections can be made to environmental topics or issues in various ways, and some suggestions for making such connections are given in brief comments.

A Policy Framework for Environmental Education in Ontario Schools

This guide is a collection of tips, techniques, and resources that have been used by Ontario educators. It includes a wealth of information on the practices of school boards across Ontario and a broad spectrum of current approaches. The practices discussed in the guide represent only a sample of the many initiatives that have been developed across the province. This guide is intended for teachers, principals, and other educators in elementary and secondary schools and boards. It will also be of interest to school councils, parents, and community members, who play a valuable role as partners in Ontario's education system and help to advance EE across the province.
